We're so grateful to Sir Walter St John's Educational Charity for enabling us to invite Gary Lewars to give expert tuition to children and young the saxophone. people who would not otherwise have the chance to play. Anyone who might be interested please let us know. Gary Lewars has also led a few of our Jazz Workshops which form part of the extension of work that the 51st State Band is offering to young people in the field of music.

We have French Horns for small hands & orchestra, horns for teenagers. Want to Play? With the wonderful suport of the Peabody Trust we are now ready to add a French Horn section to this band. With Paul Beer currently teaching our brass section, his son Dan will teach the French Horn. Lessons and instruments can be provided as part of the band. So if you are keen to play (or know anyone who might be interested) we can sort it out! Just let us know.
Many thanks to the Golsoncott Foundation for providing us with a grant to buy trombones.
The Trombone Project is also sponsored by the Peabody Trust (local network fund)
This year we're featuring our NEW Trombone section. All these trombonists only started playing in February 2007, and are a fantastic example of just how quickly progress can be made by playing in our band.
Question: “How has playing the trombone given you more motivation and confidence in what you do?”
Answer: “It's made me happy, more confident and more sociable. It's good fun and helps me meet other people. Also I like the music”.
