The 51st State Band provides the opportunity for children and young people aged 7 to 18 years, living in and around the London Borough of Wandsworth, regardless of their background, to use a range of artistic media to help them deal with challenges in their lives and to develop their confidence and key skills necessary to enable them to engage with their peers and succeed in their personal goals. In particular, the 51st State Band project:
- Provides access to instruments
- Supports young people to understand and achieve goals and develop a sense of worth
- Inspires young people to develop a love and joy of music
- Develops the discipline to work toward a concert performance
- Provides motivation for young people
- Broadens young people's experience of music and support them to progress/improve
- Supports them to work co-operatively with others
- Fosters leadership skills through mentoring and
- Supports young people to value music and the arts
The band also provides opportunities for parents, gap year students, volunteers, mentors and university students to participate.

If you would like to become involved with the work of the 51st State Band, we would love to hear from you. The band needs to raise funds to continue the amazing work they do to give children the opportunity to learn instruments and to perform together.
